Yemen MSF Says Hospital Hit by Air Raid, No Casualties

She cautioned that workers at the site are still gathering information, CNN reported. The United States said it had mistakenly struck the facility.

The apparently deliberate targeting and destruction of a hospital supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in northern Yemen last night, which may amount to a war crime, demands an urgent, independent and thorough investigation, Amnesty global said today.

He called for a prompt investigation, and recalled that hospitals and medical personnel are protected under global law. "Bombing a hospital sends a message that all medical facilities, health workers, and patients are at grave risk".

At the time, Kunduz had seen a resurgence of Taliban and the US was assisting Afghan forces in fighting. Sadaa is the largest city in Sadaa province, northwestern Yemen. It handled 150 emergency cases each week.

Southern separatist Adel Muhasin said al-Qaeda had largely succeeded in penetrating local Salafi groups and now holds several areas, with about 5 000 fighters organised under its command in Aden.

In addition to the sale of tens of billions worth of armaments, the USA provides the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen with vast logistical support and what it terms "targeting assistance". "Our operations were along the Saudi border, not inside the city", Asseri told CNN.

No victims have been recorded after an airstrike had hit the MSF hospital in the Yemeni district of Haydan, an MSF source told Sputnik on Tuesday.

According to the hospital's director Dr Ali al-Mughli, the hospital is now completely destroyed with the exception of the storage rooms. There were also two patients in the IPD department who also managed to escape. This has included several attacks on hospitals, though never before a facility run by Doctors Without Borders, one of the few worldwide NGOs that still has a significant presence in the country.

"The situation in Taiz is dramatic and will only get worse in the coming weeks if no efforts are made to spare civilians from the violence and allow them to access basic services, including health facilities", says Kleijer.
