World Famous Landmarks in Blue Light on United Nations 70th Anniversary

The iconic globe of the SM Mall of Asia bears the color blue of the United Nations to mark the Charter's 70th anniversary.

The United Nations Association Southern Illinois of the United States of America Southern Illinois Chapter, and the American Association of University Women, Carbondale Branch, will celebrate the anniversary at 5 p.m. Sunday at the SIU School of Law, Lesar Building, in the Auditorium.

Reaffirming the commitment to "we the peoples", the Charter signals every government's commitment to the eradicating poverty, bringing forth the efforts to help the marginalized and vulnerable and development around the world. In 1945, in the aftermath of the most disastrous war ever inflicted by mankind upon itself, the nation-states of the world, a few of which lay in complete ruin, resolved to make the world a better place by preventing conflict, finding relief for millions of refugees, achieving fair dealings among states, providing disaster relief, among many other things.

The collective effort of countries seen in the UN proves that no man - or country - alone can solve the existing problems which burden people across nations.

The United Nations headquarters building is illuminated in blue to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN, in Beirut, Lebanon, Friday, October 23, 2015. "On UN Day we celebrate the United Nations and its core objectives - peace, social progress and respect for human rights", said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, welcoming the United Nations colleagues working in Spain.

United Nations Day is celebrated on this day each year.

This requirement was fulfilled on October 24th, 1945 and consequently on October 24, 1945, the United Nations was ultimately established on 24th October, therefore we every year celebrated it as the United Nations Day.

"The timeless values of the UN Charter must remain our guide", he said in a statement.

This celebration started in New York and Australia, where the Sydney Opera House tuned blue to mark the UN Day. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

In New York, where the United Nations headquarters are located, the day was also marked with a concert in the UN General Assembly Hall. "Better World." Key events include a ceremony held in San Francisco in June to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter in that city in 1945.
