Rouhani: Iran to Begin Implementation of Nuclear Deal

Khamenei endorsed the deal in a letter sent to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, but warned against "ambiguities" that could "bring huge damages" to Iran.

Ballistic missile tests by Iran are banned under a 2010 Security Council resolution that remains valid until a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers is implemented.

The four countries presented a report to the sanctions committee making the case that the missile test was a "serious violation" and requesting "appropriate action", according to a joint letter obtained by AFP.

The launch came months after a few Iranian officials voiced concern that the Islamic republic's recent nuclear deal with world powers could place limits on its missile program.

Iran's parliament approved the deal in two stormy sessions that saw lawmakers shout at one another and at least one hard-line parliamentarian burst into tears.

At the same time, the United States and the European Union took formal legal steps on Sunday that will rescind sanctions once Iran meets certain conditions such as reducing the number of centrifuges used to enrich uranium, and its enriched-uranium stockpile.

"Britain's UN Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said: It's clear in our view that is a violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions which remain in force after the Iran deal".

The Iranian designed and built precision-guided, long-range missile, is called the Emad (Pillar) surface-to-surface missile. Khamenei also insisted, as he has done previously, that the US and other countries announce the elimination of sanctions against Iran, not just their suspension as the nuclear deal actually calls for.

In the process, the USA has essentially decided that the investigation of past nuclear weapons work, and the state of current Iranian weaponization expertise, is nonbinding on a treaty specifically meant to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

"Iran's nuclear dossier which was unfairly considered as a threat to global peace and security by being categorized under Chapter Seven on the United Nations, is now removed from that chapter and UNSC has shifted its approach towards Iran's nuclear program".

Rouhani said that the agreement, which curbs Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for lifting worldwide sanctions, would be carried out with "good will".

The supreme leader also said Iran was seeking additional guarantees that global economic sanctions would be lifted. Iran's Foreign Ministry said firmly this missile is not created to do that.
