Iran Nuclear Deal Goes into Effect

If Washington does not lift sanctions as promised, Tehran will be left without leverage, having already played its hand - a scenario feared by Iran's hard-liners. It's also planning to draw around $30 billion in annual tourism revenue, up from $7.5 billion previous year, the AP reported.

Germany's foreign minister said the European Union sanctions were likely to remain in place at least until January.

The country's measures should be confirmed by the United Nations nuclear watchdog before the removal of western and worldwide sanctions.

Tehran could have to give up or dilute the majority of its enriched nuclear gasoline shares, dismantle most of its centrifuges and halt a reactor able to making plutonium.

"Iran's atomic energy chief, Ali Akbar Salehi, told state TV that Tehran was ready to begin taking steps to comply, and awaited an order from President Hassan Rouhani, [saying]: 'We are hopeful to begin in the current or next week, '" the Associated Press reports.

"We need to renovate our air transportation system and buy new planes after sanctions are lifted". However, in July a U.S. official called this provision meaningless and said the United States would veto any suggested transfer of ballistic missile technology to Iran.

Iran, US begin preparations for Iran deal implementation

In addition to slashing the variety of centrifuges at Natanz and Fordo to round 6,000, Iran may have to fulfill the IAEA that its Arak reactor can't be used for army functions.

Starting Sunday, Iran will also help the IAEA clarify past and current concerns about its nuclear program.

Kerry said Tom Shannon, the appointee for undersecretary of state for political affairs, and the USA point-man on Iran, Stephen Mull, would join senior officials from the six powers, Iran and the European Union in Vienna this week to discuss implementation of the deal.

"We have respected the timetable set out in the JCPOA, which demonstrates our collective will to stick to its provisions", Mogherini said. "Today, Iran begins to take the steps necessary to implement its JCPOA commitments".

On Monday, State Department officials will be in Vienna for the first meeting of a joint commission made up of the countries that signed the nuclear deal and established to work out issues that arise as the deal is implemented.

"On October 18, the director general of the worldwide Atomic Energy Agency was informed by the Islamic Republic of Iran that..."

Alongside the JCPOA, Iran and the IAEA agreed a "road-map" setting out a timeline of activities in order for the agency to make an assessment, by the end of 2015, of issues relating to possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program.

I want to express appreciation for the dedicated, professional work of the IAEA in verifying Iran's commitments under the interim Joint Plan of Action.
