Publicis Groupe buys Razorfish from Microsoft
August 7, 2009
Exclusive : Unnamed sources have stated that Microsoft has verbally agreed to sell Razorfish to Publicis. Even though Dentsu has offered a higher dollar value for Razorfish, Publicis agreed to “send their client advertising dollars” to Bing. In essence Publicis said “we’ll waste our client money with second rate Bing if you guys give us Razorfish for a lower cost”
I love Advertising Agency politics, always seems that the client is the one being shafted.
Expect the official release in a few days… along with a “Microsoft Bing and Publicis Advertising Agreement”.
Bing is currently at about 5% market share. Yahoo at about 12% market share. Combined both search engines don’t even exit the teens in terms of market share. Yet Publicis Groupe is willing to jam their clients hard earned money into the Microsoft Pay Per Click system.
Love hard nosed “screw the client” tactics.

Why is it that I keep thinking of Microsoft as an underdog lately?
It could be because they seems to be making one bad decision after another. Hopefully this works out well for them.
